IAN M. GREEN, litigation partner and trial lawyer, specializes in toxic tort defense, catastrophic personal injury defense, construction defect matters and real estate litigation.  Mr. Green counts among his regular clients the world’s largest soft-drink manufacturer and bottler, the two largest pest control operators in the world, a major distributor of residential and agricultural chemicals, various commercial property land owners and a number of general contractors and subcontractors from a variety of different trades.  Over the course of the past two decades, Mr. Green has successfully defended various claims in which the plaintiffs had been seeking hundreds of millions of dollars from the defendants.

Mr. Green received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, with an emphasis in international relations, from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1986.  Mr. Green received his undergraduate degree with Honors, and was admitted to Phi Beta Kappa.  Mr. Green received his Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Hastings College of Law in 1989, where he was a member of Phi Alpha Delta.

Mr. Green clerked for the Honorable John P. Vukasin, Jr. in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California prior to joining Hill, Farrer & Burrill LLP.  Mr. Green, a Los Angeles native, has been with Hill, Farrer & Burrill LLP his entire legal career.

IAN M. GREEN is an equity partner with Hill, Farrer & Burrill LLP, and began his legal career with the Firm in 1989.  Mr. Green’s practice primarily focuses on four general areas: toxic tort defense, personal injury defense, construction defect matters and real estate litigation.

In the area of toxic tort defense, Mr. Green is a member of the Firm’s environmental practice group.  He only represents defendants in all types of toxic tort cases including chemical exposure, asbestosis cases, crop damage actions and Proposition 65 matters.  Mr. Green has successfully defended some of the largest pesticide applicators in the United States in jury trials with claims arising out of alleged exposures to a large variety of hazardous substances including pesticides, such as fumigants and organophosphates, and herbicides.  He has been successful in defending cases involving various claims of medical conditions such as “multiple chemical sensitivity,” “chronic fatigue immune deficiency syndrome” and “reactive airway dysfunction syndrome.”  He has also successfully defended his clients on asbestos claims concerning mesothelioma.

In the area of personal injury defense, Mr. Green represents the world’s largest soft drink manufacturer and bottler.  Mr. Green has successfully represented his client in wrongful death actions, product liability claims, “exploding bottle” litigation, slip and fall matters and automobile liability defense.

In the area of construction defect matters, Mr. Green represents a variety of pest control operators, general contractors and subcontractors in breach of contract and negligence claims.  Mr. Green has successfully defended numerous different trades in large, multi-party actions involving construction projects of more than ten million dollars.

In the area of real estate litigation, Mr. Green represents several large commercial property owners whose portfolios include shopping centers, malls and strip centers.  Mr. Green assists his clients in this area in negotiating and renegotiating lease terms, and in bringing suit to evict tenants who are in default of various provisions of their leases.  Mr. Green has successfully tried over a dozen cases to remove tenants and collect on unpaid rental arrears.

Trial Experience:
Mr. Green has first chaired over two dozen jury trials to verdict.  Mr. Green has also first chaired nearly three dozen bench trials to verdict.  He has also first chaired an equal number of binding arbitrations to final award.

Represents several large commercial property owners whose portfolios include  shopping centers, malls and strip centers.  Representation involves negotiating and renegotiating lease terms, and in bringing suit to evict tenants who are in default of various provisions of their leases.

Construction Defect Contractors Negligence Claims

In the area of construction defect matters,  representation of  a variety of pest control operators, general contractors and subcontractors in breach of contract and negligence claims.  Successfully defended numerous different trades in large, multi-party actions involving construction projects of more than ten million dollars.
