Casey L. Morris

OVERVIEW

Casey L. Morris focuses her practice on labor and employment defense, both in court and in the boardroom.

With decades of experience in advising employers, from large national companies to small mom and pop shops, she implements legally compliant employment policies and promotes conflict avoidance in all aspects of their business. Casey vigorously defends her clients in court and arbitration proceedings against claims and disputes related to wage and hour violations, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and accommodation.

In addition to state and federal court, Casey represents employers in matters before federal and state administrative agencies, including the California Civil Rights Department, the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Casey’s clients span many industries, such as health care, manufacturing, logistics, hospitality, service, defense, entertainment, and retail. Casey strategizes with human resources directors and CEOs on employment-related contract negotiations, contract disputes, and responses to grievances and lawsuits.

Prior to her legal career, Casey earned a Master of Public Health, with a focus on epidemiology, from the University of California, Los Angeles. Casey also worked for several years on the financial side of the music business.

While earning her J.D. from Loyola Law School, where she graduated cum laude, Casey became a member of the Order of the Coif and the St. Thomas More Legal Honor Society. In addition, she served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Judith Ashmann-Gerst of the California Court of Appeal, Second District, and as a mediator for the Loyola Center for Conflict Resolution.

Defense of Age, Sex, Disability and Race Discrimination. Retaliation and Harassment Claims

Prevailed at numerous trials and obtained dozens of summary judgment rulings in favor of clients in U.S. District Courts, state courts and arbitration proceedings against claims for age, sex, disability and race discrimination, retaliation, and harassment.

Appeal of a Jury Verdict

Appealed a jury verdict against my client on a disability discrimination claim, successfully overturning the judgement and resulting in a complete win for my client.

Wrongful Termination of Apprentice Agreement

Successfully defended the local branch of one of the nation’s largest joint apprenticeship programs against a claim for wrongful termination of an apprentice’s agreement in U.S. District Court, resulting in the case being dismissed.

Summary Judgement for Breach of Contract Claim

Obtained summary judgment and an award of attorneys’ fees in favor of a nationwide manufacturing company against a multimillion-dollar, complex breach of contract claim involving a real estate agreement and a bankruptcy.

Employment-Related Claims for Cable Company

Achieved successful defenses for one of the largest cable companies in the United States against several employment-related claims, resulting in favorable settlements on behalf of the client.

Wrongful Termination Grievance

Defended a wrongful termination grievance against one of the largest beverage companies in the Americas, resulting in an award in favor of the employer.

Arbitration Win on Violation of Collective Bargaining Agreement

Negotiated and arbitrated multiple claims for violations of a collective bargaining agreement against one of the nation’s largest defense and aerospace contractors.

Trade Secret Protection

Protected the trade secrets of a supply company from a former employee who misappropriated and divulged confidential information to a competitor.

Compelling Arbitration of Employment Claims

Removed dozens of cases from state or U.S. District Court to arbitration forums pursuant to enforceable arbitration agreements drafted for the client.
