OVERVIEW
Trusts and estates lawyer John M. Byrne focuses his practice on estate planning and trust administration. He also handles trusts and estates related matters in Probate Court including probate proceedings and conservatorships.
John represents and works with individuals, families, family offices and affiliated advisors, fiduciaries, and the owners of closely held businesses. He creates the structures for clients to transfer wealth to the next generation and ensure their wishes for managing their wealth and legacies are upheld.
John has a longtime history of service and leadership of the Trusts and Estates Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association including serving as Chair of the Section and has served as a Trustee of LACBA in addition to other leadership positions. John is a past president of the Los Angeles Estate Planning Council and is a member of the Chancery Club of Los Angeles. In addition, he sits on the Board of Directors of Geary’s of Beverly Hills.
Recognized for nearly 20 years by Southern California’s Super Lawyers, John served as a member of the Los Angeles Superior Court Probate Self-Help Center Team and periodically volunteered as a Judge Pro Tem of the Los Angeles Superior Court, Small Claims and Traffic Divisions, and regularly assisted as a volunteer attorney for the Guardianship/Conservatorship Pro Per Clinic.
Prior to joining Hill, Farrer & Burrill in 1999, John served as the Research Attorney for the Probate Department of the Los Angeles Superior Court for two years and worked directly with the Probate Judges in Departments 5 and 11 and the Probate Attorneys of the Los Angeles Superior Probate Court. He covered special assignments, one of which included working full-time with Judge Lance Ito during the O.J. Simpson criminal trial and full-time with Judge Hiroshi Fujisaki during the O.J. Simpson civil trial in Santa Monica.
